Mumbai:The Maharashtra government has announced a loan waiver scheme of Rs 6,208 crores for 40 lakh farmers in the state.
This excepted to provide relief to the farmers of the state state who were not covered by the central government’s Rs 71,000 crore farm loan waiver announced earlier this year.
The Maharashtra government’s plan of waiving debt and one-time settlement package covered 37.5 lakh farmers in the state; agricultural debt of around Rs 7,800 crore has either been written off or rescheduled.
The government’s package will benefit farmers who own more than 5 acres of land and have paid back their loans regularly. The  above announcement was made in Maharashtra assembly during the winter session. 

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan announced that loans of up to Rs 20,000 of all farmers,who have more than 5 acres of land would be waived completely.
Farmers with loans above Rs 20,000 the will have to pay only for the amount above Rs 20,000, while farmers who have repaid their loans regularly in past are also eligible for for the same benefits.
